Young voters under 30 dropped by 6.5 percent in latest registry
The number of young voters from 18 to 30 has dropped to 690,000 from 740,000, as the latest voters’ registry announced there were only 400 more electors today than last year.
The registry for the Legislative Council election in December comes with 4.47 million electors for the geographic constituencies.
The largest decrease was 6.5 percent in the youngest voters under 30. Over 20 percent of decrease was seen in first-time voters under 20.
A 0.64 percent increase was recorded in the age group between 31 and 60.
The eldest group above 60 is the only one with a growing number of voters. Over 60,000 new voters have registered in the age group, contributing to a 4.5 percent increase.
The election in December is the city’s first universal poll after electoral changes, with the number of geographic constituencies doubling from five to 10.
The New Territories South West has the largest voter population at 510,000 and the least in Hong Kong Island West with 370,000 electors
For functional constituencies, 220,000 voters, including 96 percent being individual votes, have registered.
