Wrong polling stations allocated to some eastern Sha Tin district voters
About 14,200 voters of eastern part of Sha Tin District of New Territories South East geographical constituency were mistakenly allocated to a wrong polling station in the same constituency, government said on Friday.
In the release issued in the evening, a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office said the discovery came upon checking of records on polling station allocation, and apologized for the inconvenience caused.
The incident involves two nearby polling stations in eastern part of Sha Tin District of the New Territories South East geographical constituency.
Initial investigation revealed that when allocating voters to polling station, the Office's staff mistakenly swapped voters of two polling stations, namely CUHKFAA Chan Chun Ha Secondary School (Code: R2701) and PLK Riverain Primary School (Code: R2702), resulting in the wrong allocation of polling station to about 14,200 voters.
The spokesperson continued that since the wrong poll cards have been mailed to all voters, the Office is now arranging to re-mail a revised poll card with location map of the polling station to affected citizens as soon as possible.
The Office will deploy additional staff at the polling stations concerned and put up notices at prominent locations of the polling stations to make sure pollsters cast their votes at the correct polling station.
The Office apologized to affected voters for the inconvenience caused as well, adding that they will be more cautious and conduct repeated inspections to avoid recurrence of similar incident.
The spokesman added that pollsters may only cast their votes at the designated polling station.
