Would-be robber flees empty-handed after botched smash-and-grab at Kwun Tong jewelry store
Police are searching for a would-be robber who failed to smash his way through security glass at a Kwun Tong jewelry store this afternoon.
The incident at around 1.38 pm saw a man attempting to break with a hammer the glass displays of the jewelry store on 49 Mut Wah Street, with his hammer blows only cracking the glass into spider-web-like patterns.
The store owner was quick to react, pressing the panic button while yelling at the robber. The robber panicked and fled the scene on foot.
It was said that the owner tried to chase after him but failed to keep up; he later reported the case to the police.
Police officers responded to the scene to review the security camera footage in a bid to identify the thief. They are looking for a man aged between 30 and 40, wearing a mask and black clothing. No arrests have been made so far.
One of the store employees sustained injuries to the face from the glass fragments but did not require hospitalization after being treated by paramedics on-site.
