Woman who jumped into sea and friend who rescued her both sent to hospital
An 18-year-old woman who jumped into the sea over an argument with her ex-boyfriend, and her 28-year-old male friend who rescued her were both sent to hospital in the early hours on Saturday.
The incident took place around 1.30am today at the promenade outside the Hong Kong Cultural Center in Tsim Sha Tsui.
The young woman surnamed Cheung jumped into the sea after she had an argument with her 18-year-old ex surnamed Wong. Cheung’s friend surnamed Yim immediately dived into the sea and attempted to rescue Cheung.
Yim successfully retrieved Cheung, but failed to swim back onshore and called for help. Wong then reported to police and Yim and Cheung were soon rescued and brought back onto the land by marine police.
The two, wrapped in aluminum foil to keep their bodies warm, were then sent to hospital accompanied by Wong.
Police investigations are ongoing.
