Woman’s admirer arrested for arson outside her Mid-Levels apartment
Police arrested a 27-year-old man for arson after he allegedly set fire to magazines outside a woman’s apartment on Robinson Road at the Mid-levels as she rebuffed his romantic advances.
Sources said the arrestee was rejected after he confessed his love to the woman, who is of Indian descent. He visited her home twice for harassment, causing the disturbance and splashing paint thinner in the hallway.
The man was wanted by the police, and building security guards were also on high alert for the man, with portraits of the man posted at the entrance of the building.
It is understood that the man dressed up as a woman this morning at around 8.33 am and went past the security guards to pay his third visit.
The woman refused to open the door, and the man escalated the situation by burning newspapers and magazines outside her door with a cassette gas cooker.
He was then chased away by the woman’s father and was subdued with the help of a security guard. Police officers were then called to the scene to arrest the man.
Firefighters were also called to the scene and extinguished the fire. No one was injured in the incident, and no evacuation was required.
