Woman arrested for splashing hot drink at another woman over love dispute
Police arrested a woman on Monday, a week after a love dispute led her to splash a hot drink at another woman in a Mong Kok convenience store.
The incident that happened last Monday saw a woman splashed with a hot drink inside a 7-11 store located on Portland Street, Mong Kok, causing second-degree burns and scarring on her right shoulder, neck, ears, and face.
The police combed through security footage and arrested a 37-year-old woman Cheung yesterday on suspicion of "wounding".
A police spokesperson gave an account of the incident today, in which she said the victim had left the scene by the time police officers arrived and that the female victim told officers she did not require assistance when the officers called her by her phone number.
The female victim told the media earlier that no officers were dispatched to the scene despite her making multiple calls to the force.
The spokesperson said it wasn't until 5 pm that day the female victim filed a report with the police again after she felt unwell. She was then taken to the Kwong Wah Hospital for treatment.
The spokesperson also explained the reason for not taking the victim’s statement on the same day was that hospital medical staff had deemed her unfit to give a statement when police investigators arrived at the hospital that day.
It is understood that the arrestee and the victim knew each other and were caught in a love dispute.
