Woman arrested for feces at Lok Ma Chau makeshift hospital
A woman has been arrested for smearing feces inside an isolation unit at a makeshift hospital in Lok Ma Chau, police said on Monday.
A cleaning worker at the Lok Ma Chau facility found traces of feces on the kettle, mattress, and floor in the isolation unit, and called the police to investigate.
Officers later arrested a 37-year-old woman surnamed Chan who previously occupied the unit at Choi Yuen Estate in Sheung Shui on suspicion of criminal damage.
The Border District’s Criminal Investigation Department will follow up on the case.
This is not the first incident involving smelly poop in isolation facilities. A 27-year-old man surnamed Fung was previously arrested for smearing his feces on the walls of a unit at the Queen’s Hill Estate quarantine facility.
The emotional well-being of those quarantined at isolation facilities came into question after multiple suicide attempts were reported at Penny’s Bay.
Last month, 16 people under quarantine at the facility staged a walkout to express their dissatisfaction. A woman was also filmed shouting at a security guard.
Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and Yan Chai Hospital offer free emotional support hotlines for those quarantined at Penny's Bay.
The hotlines 18281 and 5484 1081 are staffed by professional social workers to support the affected to release their stress under quarantine through sharing and counseling.
