The University of Hong Kong students have to spend 10 hours watching videos and pass an online multiple-choice test that lasts about an hour before completing the mandatory national security course.
The specifics were listed in an internal email to students by HKU Registrar Jeannie Tsang Wing-shi on Friday, according to Undergrad, a publication by the Student Union of HKU.
Undergrad said in a
Facebook post early Friday that to complete “Introduction to the Constitution, the Basic Law and the National Security Law,” a non-credit bearing course, students must watch 10 hours of videos on their own, followed by a one-hour multiple-choice test.
They must obtain a “Pass” in order to complete the course.
Undergrad added all students must complete the course before they graduate starting the school year 2022/23. They need not enroll in the course.
Undergrad continued that Tsang would announce more information related to the course after school starts on September 1.
The news came as the SAR government actively pushed forward national security education throughout all schools in the city.
Earlier, seven other University Grants Committee-funded schools, including the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the Hong Kong Baptist University, announced the addition of a national security course that is listed as a graduation requirement.
