Tickets for the city's first gourmet market at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai on Saturday were distributed this morning, yet some citizens have told reporters they would rather have more consumption vouchers than have the government spend the funding on hosting consumption events.
The 100,000 tickets for the Wan Chai event were available at Home Affairs inquiry centers across 18 districts starting at 8 am on Wednesday. Each person can only collect two tickets, but authorities will also reserve some tickets for walk-in visitors during the event.
At the Kwun Tong center this morning, more than 70 people were queuing up for tickets before opening hours.
One told reporters that he had queued three times in order to get six tickets for himself and his friends to try out all sorts of gourmet at the event on Saturday; he also called on the government to organize more such events to bring joy to citizens.
However, another passerby said he would rather have the government spend the funding directly on citizens by increasing the value of the consumption vouchers distributed instead of splashing out on hosting consumption events.
He also said the government could organize major events that would not require citizens to spend.
