Wan Chai harbourfront further opens offering more leisure space
The Pierside Precinct located at the Wan Chai Pier harbourfront area was further opened today, with the newly opened space located between the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and Wan Chai Pier.
With the newly opened leisure space, Wan Chai North and Shek Tong Tsui will now be connected by a 5.5-kilometer-long promenade. The new space will also broaden the promenade section by three times.
The newly opened Precinct mainly comprises simple fair-faced concrete and wooden structures, also adopting design concepts with photo frames and neon lights to decorate the new space, offering lots of check-in spots for photo shooting.
Members of the public were seen enjoying the new leisure space this noon. One of them said the new harbourfront area offers citizens a new place to run while enjoying the nice view of the Victoria Harbour at the same time.
“I believe this will be another tourist spot in the future, for tourists to explore the beauty of Hong Kong,” he said.
He also suggested that authorities can refer to the Bondi Icebergs - a swimming pool right by the sea in Bondi Beach in Sydney, where the government can also explore the possibility to build one in Hong Kong.
However, some citizens think there is quite a mismatch for some of the Precinct’s design with the harbourfront, and said authorities could improve transportation within the area to make the new leisure space more accessible.
