vouchers are big deal for alipayhk

AlipayHK saw a 160 percent growth in transactions of HK$1,000 or above last month, thanks to the electronic consumption vouchers.
Twenty percent of all those who registered for the e-vouchers opted for AlipayHK, one of the four stored value facilities selected by the government to launch the HK$5,000 consumption voucher scheme.

AlipayHK said transaction amounts in electronic appliances have increased 10 times month on month in August.

It added that the number of transactions involving HK$200 to HK$999 saw an increase of 140 percent month on month, whilst transaction amounts for electronic appliances showed the most significant increase overall - a 10 times growth compared to July, with the number of transactions increasing five times.

A spokesman for AlipayHK said in a statement yesterday that the total transaction amount last month rose by 110 percent compared with July, showing a great increase in users' purchasing power.

Transaction amounts for cosmetics and jewelry increased by 6.2 times, while the number of transactions increased 5.9 times.

Sports equipment, fitness beauty and entertainment top-up services saw a three-times increase in transaction amounts, and a 2.2 times rise in the number of transactions.

The spokesman said the company's most popular service among its users was spending in physical stores, with more than 70 percent of transactions being madein shops. Online transactions and public transport payments followed in second and third positions.

About 700,000 of its users have used AlipayHK's EasyGo, a mobile payment service, to ride on public transport. The service is available on the MTR, Long Win Bus, green minibuses and ferries.

The second batch of consumption vouchers will be disbursed on Friday.

Disbursements of HK$2,000 will be made on Octopus cards, while AlipayHK, Tap & Go, and WeChat Pay HK will see HK$3,000 sums.

AlipayHK and merchants will offer 200 types of discounts covering staycations, electronic appliances, online shopping and more. They offer around 70 exclusive deals.
