(Video) Vivienne Tam turns Ngong Ping into virtual runway
Designer Vivienne Tam has used Ngong Ping's forest and cable cars as a runway for her first virtual fashion show during the pandemic.
Ngong Ping 360 launched the “Ngong Ping Outdoor ARTcation” on Monday in a crossover with the designer, who used the Lantau attraction as a virtual runway to showcase her FW2021 collection.
The collection, titled “City Camouflaged,” was inspired by the breath-taking nature and spiritual walks at Ngong Ping, away from the bustling skyscrapers and urban jungle.
Until November 7, the cable car operator will join hands with emerging local artists and talents to bring an artistic experience to families and young people.
There are workshops led by local artists where children can learn acrylic painting and wall painting. There are also opportunities to take selfies in front of paintings by emerging artists Rebecca Lin and Leon Lollipop.
Ngong Ping 360 managing director Andy Lau Wai-ming said fewer than 1,000 people a day took the cable cars during the pandemic last year. In the first three quarters of this year the daily attendance exceeded 1,000.
With promotions during the National Day holiday in October, attendance tripled compared to the same period last year.
The distribution of electronic consumption vouchers also helped, as Lau noted that more citizens switched to e-payment channels when they buy tickets.
There was significant growth in revenue in August – the month when the first batch of vouchers were distributed – as compared to July.
