A police officer was dragged to the middle of a road by a private car in Yuen Long as the driver, suspectedly furious with police's enforcement, completely ignored the five cops there and fled the scene, as shown in a video widely circulated online.
It is understood that the driver is now wanted by police on suspicion of dangerous driving and obstructing police.
The video drew the attention of the internet Thursday as it captured the moment the driver resisted police and the cops stood on the street watching the driver drove off.
The incident occurred at Chun Yin Square in Yuen Long as police and staffers from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department were combating illegal parking around 11.35am today, according to a witness.
The video started with the five cops standing to the right of the black Toyota that was still moving. One of the officers, with a baton in his right hand, attempted to pull the driver out of the vehicle with his left hand but in vain.
A second officer then successfully opened the car door to the driver seat. As the cops were about to pull the driver out, the car slowly moved forward and made a U-turn, while the first cop holding tightly onto the door was dragged to the middle of the road and fell.
The cop soon got back on his feet as he and his colleagues chase after the car that sped up and swiftly fled the scene.
According to the witness, the driver pulled over by the roadside to “pick up something” but was warned by police who told him to leave the scene immediately or they would issue him a penalty ticket.
Yet, the driver ignored the police warning and swore at the officers. He then forcefully drove off while police tried to stop him and his vehicle.
