Prominent business tycoon Victor Li Tzar-kuoi, father of Lan Kwai Fong Allan Zeman, and former Executive Council convener Bernard Chan are among the 34-strong Chief Executive’s Council of Advisers, the government announced Friday.
Other notable council members include Henry Tang Ying-yen, chairman of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, and former Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Frederick Ma Si-hang.
The first term of the council will take effect today (Mar 17) and end on June 30, 2025.
The government said the council is a high-level advisory body to advise Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu on the strategic development of Hong Kong, leveraging on opportunities from national and global developments.
It added that the formation of the council is particularly timely and crucial, as Hong Kong is now on the path to resuming normalcy after the pandemic, seeking to rekindle momentum to return to the international stage as the most effective gateway between the world and the country.
The government also said it will spare no effort in advancing Hong Kong’s economic development and prosperity, tapping the enormous business potential arising from innovation and technology and its further integration into the national development and deepening regional and global collaborations.
“Members of the council are all distinguished and eminent leaders in their respective fields, and some of them are internationally renowned scholars or experts.
“They will certainly be in the best position to provide me with valuable insights and wise counsel to benefit the long-term strategic development of Hong Kong,” Lee said as he welcomed the advisors on board.
He added that the council will be organized along three broad streams; economic advancement and sustainability, innovation, entrepreneurship, and regional and global collaborations.
He noted that he looks forward to their close partnership in the upcoming years.
