Van crashes on Tai Po Road after being ‘ambushed’ by monkeys
A van crashed into the fence railing on Tai Po Road and landed on its side around noon on Wednesday after several monkeys jumped onto the road out of nowhere and caught the driver off guard.
The van was traveling towards Sha Tin along Tai Po Road when making a turn nearby Piper’s Hill in Sham Shui Po.
The male driver said he turned abruptly after seeing several monkeys suddenly jump onto the road. The van then mounted onto the sidewalk, crashed through about 12 meters of fence railing, and rolled onto its side.
Although the driver sustained an injury to his feet, he was able to climb out of the vehicle on his own. He was then sent to Princess Margaret Hospital.
After the incident, items, including reflective vests and receipts, were scattered on the ground. That section of Tai Po Road was also cordoned off for police investigations.
