Vaccination requirement should cover cinemas and gyms

The requirement of displaying vaccination records before entering venues should cover premises like cinemas and gyms, Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan Siu-chee said.
Speaking on a radio program on Saturday morning, Chan agreed with the idea of a “vaccination passport” to a certain extent, saying that vaccination is a necessary requirement for citizens to visit premises like cinemas and gyms.

She added that citizens are now required to display their vaccination records before entering restaurants that operate in mode D, where up to 12 people can sit at the same table, as well as karaoke establishments, noting that it is not a new measure.

Chan continued that if the measure is accepted by society, it will be extended to cover other premises, depending on how long citizens will stay there.

She pointed out that in the past two years, citizens may have found the new anti-pandemic measures annoying but said that they will get used to them over time.

When asked if the “vaccination passport” requirement will end up forcing all citizens to get the jab, Chan only said that extending the coverage of vaccination aims to protect the health of the public, which has always been one of the goals of the public hygiene policy.
