The United World College Hong Kong Committee (UWCHK) and Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong (LPCUWC) have launched a two-week exhibition with fireside chats on healthcare, education, and social issues involving 20 distinguished alumni and speakers at the Central Market until February 15 (Wednesday).
Officially opened by the Guest of Honour, The Honourable Alice Mak, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, the event features the theme of UWC education for peace and sustainability to mark the 50th anniversary of Hong Kong students in overseas UWCs, and the 30th anniversary of LPCUWC.
Anthony Tong, Board Chairman of LPCUWC, pointed out that UWC is a vibrant and diverse learning community across national, religious and social boundaries. “That’s the ‘magic’ at the heart of UWC,” he noted.
“Many of the distinguished alumni have made remarkable contributions to Hong Kong, mainland China, the region, and the wider world,” observed Chairman of United World Colleges Hong Kong Committee Ken Yeung. “They wholeheartedly believe that UWC values are even more relevant today as the world is facing serious geo-political and climate change challenges.”
A highlight of the exhibition is the series of fireside chats and networking that brings together 20 outstanding alumni and eminent speakers from various fields, including medicine, finance, legal, built environment, arts, and philanthropy. They will share insights on topics ranging from social and technological innovation, smart city, talent transformation, education, to healthcare, and sustainability via seven sessions of fireside chats starting at 6 pm on February 3, 6 to 9, 13, and 15. A dozen early-year alumni have also shared their stories in videos about how UWC education inspired them to bring impact to the world from generation to generation.
Networking drinks will take place at 7 pm after the sharings to offer precious opportunities to connect with alumni in the local UWC community, which is part of the strong global network of over 60,000 graduates.
LPCUWC provides an exceptional educational experience that is underscored by the full residential community embracing more than 250 teenagers from over 90 different nationalities, cultures, and various socio-economic backgrounds. The inspirational “Quan Cai” afterschool activities are adopted from the CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) program of the renowned International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
