A seawater pipe in Cheung Sha Wan burst in the early hours of Saturday sending water shooting as high as five meters and turning it into a waterscape reminiscent of Victoria falls.
The spectacular scene occurred around 3am Saturday when the joint of a 400-feet-long water pipe with a 40-centimeter diameter burst under a footbridge between Lai Chi Kok Road and Tonkin Street.
The water shot outward like a geyser engulfing the sidewalks and roads. Passing vehicles had no choice but to undertake an “urban jungle cruise,” navigating through the rushing water.
Staffers of the Water Supplies Department were later sent to the scene to shut the water valve and repair the broken pipe.
