Two workers hospitalized over No.3 alarm fire at a Cheung Sha Wan warehouse
Two workers were rescued by firefighters and sent to hospital after a blaze broke out at a warehouse in Cheung Sha Wan on Friday afternoon. The fire was upgraded to No.3 alarm at 2.10pm.
The blaze first broke out at Yuen Fat Godown on Fat Tseung Street at 1.49pm today. The Fire Services Department said they have mobilized one breathing apparatus team to fight the blaze with one jet.
Two workers were rescued at the scene by firefighters. One of the duo sustained burns to his hands and another inhaled the smoke. They were both sent to hospital.
It was understood that the black smoke billowed out of the fire spread to two other schools in the area and led them to evacuate all students and teachers.
The schools filed a report after some of their students smelled the smoke and felt unwell.
Over 1,600 people were evacuated as of 4pm, including students and teachers from five schools and residents from housing estates nearby.
The cause of the fire has yet to be investigated.
The Fire Services Department reminded citizens affected by the smoke and the unusual odor carried by the wind to close their doors and windows, and stay calm.
