Two Indonesian women jailed for working illegally in HK
Two female Indonesian illegal workers were each sentenced to 15 months in jail at the Shatin Magistrates' Courts on Thursday.
The Immigration Department said the pair were nabbed during a joint operation conducted by the department and the police force on November 28, where investigators raided a restaurant in Ap Lei Chau.
The two Indonesian women, aged 34 and 39, were arrested while working as cleaning workers and being overstayers. Upon identity checking, one Indonesian female produced for inspection a recognizance form issued by the department, which prohibits her from taking employment. Further investigation revealed that she was a non-refoulement claimant.
They pleaded guilty to the charge yesterday and were sentenced to 15 months' imprisonment.
Meanwhile, one Indonesian female was also charged with one count of overstaying in Hong Kong and was sentenced to 12 days' imprisonment. All sentences are to run concurrently, making for a total of 15 months' imprisonment.
