An 80-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman are in critical condition after receiving Covid-19 vaccination.
The 80-year-old man received his jab at Tin Fai Sports Centre Community Vaccination Centre, Yuen Long on March 1. He has history of diabetes, carotid atherosclerosis, hypertension and stroke.
He sought medical aid at the Accident & Emergency Department of Caritas Medical Centre on March 6, after suffering from chest pain, according to Department of Health.
The man did not respond well to treatment and was sent to ICU the same night. He was provisionally diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome.
The 72-year-old woman received her shot at Tseung Kwan O Sports Centre Community Vaccination Centre on March 6. She has history of diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, hypertension and hypothyroidism.
She skipped two doses of regular insulin as she felt malaise after receiving vaccination.
The next morning her family member found out her situation deteriorated. She was admitted to Prince of Wales Hospital, where she was diagnosed with severe diabetic ketoacidosis and was sent to ICU as well.
The cases were reported by Hospital Authority to the department over the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, two women also needed hospitalization after receiving jabs at Kwun Chung Sports Centre Community Vaccination Centre this afternoon.
The first one, aged 45, developed skin rash while the other one, aged 66, suffered from chest discomfort. They were both sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The DH has contacted the Hospital Authority to obtain further information on the incidents. Cases will be provided to the Expert Committee for conducting casualty assessment.
