Two boys, 15 and 16, arrested in HK$1.3m Kwun Tong drug bust
Two boys aged 15 and 16 were among three arrested as police raided two warehouses in Kwun Tong district and seized drugs worth about HK$1.3 million.
After investigation, officers from the East Kowloon regional crime squad raided a drug warehouse at a Kwun Tong industrial building on Wednesday night, where they intercepted two teenage boys aged 15 and 16.
Officers found 2.2kg of suspected ketamine, a small amount of suspected cocaine, and some drug packaging tools in their possession and arrested them for trafficking in dangerous drugs.
Police then arrested a 27-year-old man, mastermind of the drug syndicate in a Yau Tong flat, and took him to another warehouse at an industrial building in the district. Officers seized 22kg of raw material that could be used to make MDMA, commonly known as “Ecstasy”; 680 tablets of Nimetazepam, known as “Erimin 5”; and a small amount of ketamine.
They confiscated three drug-making machines and some more packaging tools as well. The man was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing drugs and conspiracy to traffic in dangerous drugs.
All three arrestees have been remanded in custody. Police said the investigation is still ongoing and didn’t rule out more arrests.
Police pointed out that more teenagers were involved in the recent drug crimes and believed criminals offered them quick cash to recruit them. Officers also warned teenagers not to expect police or court to handle their drug crimes in a lenient way just because of their young age.
In a separate case, police’s West Kowloon regional emergency unit intercepted a white BMW at an intersection between Dundas Street and Ferry Street in Yau Ma Tei around 1am on Friday.
Inside the car, officers found 30 bags of suspected “ice” drug, weighing 26g in total, and 40 bags of suspected heroin, weighing 11.4g. The drugs seized are worth about HK$35,000.
The driver surnamed Fung, 28 was arrested for trafficking in dangerous drugs and was remanded in custody. The case is now handled by Mong Kok district criminal investigation team.
Police warned the public trafficking in dangerous drugs is a serious offense, and the maximum penalty carries a HK$5 million fine and life imprisonment.
