Two arrested for smuggling lobsters and graphics cards in private car
Two men were arrested as customs detected a smuggling case that involved a private car crossing the border to deliver lobsters and graphic cards worth HK$600,000 to the mainland, a first since the border reopening.
Customs officers intercepted the private car when it was about to enter the Zhuhai control point on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge around 7 pm on Friday night.
The goods, valued at about HK$600,000, were then found in the car’s trunk and seized by officers.
The two men onboard the vehicle, aged 37 and 51, were also arrested by officers.
One of the arrested men was from the mainland, and customs believed he was a gray goods trader.
Customs believed the suspects used the private car for their smuggling activity to bypass the mainland's quarantine and tax requirements and stressed they would step up law enforcement to combat the trading of parallel goods.
