Two arrested for illegal bookmaking on football and horse racing over HK$3.4m
Two men were respectively charged in separate cases with bookmaking involving illegal bets placed on football matches and horse racing totalling over HK$3.4 million.
Lai Kwok-piu, 56, and Fung Chi-sing, 59, were charged by the Independent Commission Against Corruption for breaching the Gambling Ordinance.
ICAC learned that Lai had engaged in bookmaking between November 2016 and March 2020 by running an illegal bookmaking business and received bets on football matches totalling over HK$3.4 million from at least eight punters.
Besides, Fun has promoted bookmaking by transmitting bets on horse racing totalling over HK$29,000 to a bookmaker for three punters, according to ICAC.
The pair is bailed out and will appear in the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts tomorrow (December 23) for mention and plea.
