Tropical Cyclone Warning Issued by Hong Kong Observatory as Second System Forms Near Philippines
The Hong Kong Observatory has issued a warning that a second tropical cyclone is forming near the Philippines and is expected to affect the region next week.
Senior Scientific Officer (Forecast Operation) Lam Hok-yin stated that an area of low pressure is currently gathering over the seas east of the Philippines and is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone within one or two days.
The system is then expected to enter the northern part of the South China Sea early next week.
Lam warned that the weather on Tuesday and Wednesday may be unstable, and the area of low pressure has a high chance of intensifying into a stronger tropical cyclone based on the forecast model.
The system's movement remains uncertain, and it is still too early to discuss what signal to hoist.
However, it is expected to bring windy and squally weather to the city in the middle of next week.
The Hong Kong Observatory advises the public to stay tuned for further updates and to take necessary precautions, particularly those who will be engaging in outdoor activities.
