Tree fell, lorry slipped as the first red rainstorm signal of the year hoisted
During the hour-long red rainstorm signal, a 10-foot-tall tree collapsed at The Peak while a lorry slipped on Lung Cheung Road. Luckily, no one was hurt in the accidents.
At around 2 pm this afternoon, a tour bus carrying students heading to Victoria Peak was blocked by a tree that collapsed and laid across both lanes.
The firefighters arrived with chainsaws and other equipment to cut the tree branches within half an hour to clear the path, with the police arriving to assist.
Separately, a 40-foot-long lorry heading east via Lung Cheung Road accidentally slipped at around 2 pm when approaching Phoenix House, causing it to crash into the nearby metal fence and blocking the traffic lanes.
The driver got out of the vehicle unhurt, and no one was injured in the crash.
The Red Rainstorm Warning Signal was issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 1.35 pm today, the first of this year, and lasted for an hour and 10 minutes.
