Train captain expects incident could be due to air springs issue
Kwai Tsing District Councillor Leung Chi-shing, who also served as MTR train captain, believed there were some issues with the air springs under the train that caused it to lean and ultimately led the doors to fall off.
An MTR train had to halt the service this morning as two pairs of doors came off its carriages.
Leung explained that the air cushions balance the train as it enters the platform and matches the platform's height according to the trainload.
He added that the train involved in the incident was leaning and not balanced, likely because the air springs were damaged or the train slid along something, causing the doors to fall off.
Leung also criticizes the MTR Corporation for not doing enough checkups on the trains.
A similar incident happened back on December 12 last year. A train heading towards Kennedy City, which was entering the platform of Causeway Bay Station, suddenly had the door of the first carriage get loose and flew off.
After investigation, the cause of the incident was due to the contractors not properly locking down the trackside billboard and the damaged locks not being detected.
