Top officials at citizens' doorsteps with Covid supply bags
Citizens may see top officials including Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor at their doorsteps as government's operation to deliver anti-pandemic service bags door-to-door began on Saturday.
The operation aims to deliver anti-pandemic supplies including KN95 masks and rapid antigen tests kits to all Hongkongers in seven days. According to government, over 1.3 million of bags have been sent away as of 3pm Saturday.
Around 2pm, Lam accompanied by Acting Secretary for Home Affairs Jack Chan Jick-chi visited residents living at “three-nil buildings” in Sai Wan – buildings without owners' corporations, residents' organizations, or have not engaged any property management companies.
Lam said she has sent a dozen of bags to residents and explained the latest testing arrangements to them. A few units didn't answer the door and she has left a notice behind telling them the retrieve the bags later.
She continued that units with more family members will be given two bags to ensure they can undergo rapid tests three days in a row.
Meanwhile, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po and pro-establishment lawmaker Alice Mak Mei-kuen also headed to “three-nil buildings” in Tai Wo Hau to deliver the supplies and stayed for about half an hour.
He also sidestepped all questions fired by reporters on citizens' response after collecting the supplies or whether he will stand in the Chief Executive election.
Mak on the other hand said she planned to deliver the bags to 30 households but 70 percent of them didn't answer. She said she understood that many citizens need to work even on weekends and added she will return later tonight.
Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah also paid visits to residents in Wong Tai Sin and delivered the supplies to a property management company there.
