Tony Wong Chi-kwong appointed government information chief
Tony Wong Chi-kwong has been appointed the Government Chief Information Officer and will assume office starting May 15, the government announced on Friday.
Wong’s appointment came following an open-cum-in-service recruitment exercise. He will be succeeding Victor Lam Wai-kiu, who has begun his pre-retirement leave after 37 years of service.
Wong joined the government as a second-grade analyst and programmer in August 1988. He became the Chief Systems Manager in October 2009 and the Assistant Director of Information Technology Services in August 2016.
In February 2021, Wong was appointed the Deputy Director of Information Technology Services.
Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung Ho Poi-yan said Wong possesses sound professional skills, broad experience, and proven management abilities.
Yeung also expressed her confidence in Wong taking a leading role championing the development of information and communications technology, and smart city and e-government progress in Hong Kong.
“I also trust that colleagues of the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer will continue to give their best under Wong’s leadership to meet the challenges ahead,” Yeung added.
Yeung also thanked Lam for his 37 years of loyal service to the community of Hong Kong.
She mentioned Lam’s significant contributions, including formulating the Hong Kong Smart City Blueprint and the application of information technology to support the government's anti-epidemic strategies and measures.
