Time well spent at the North Point Waterfront Promenade
Home-bound and running out of things to do? Then it’s about time you discover the simple pleasures of an ‘Art like’ walking tour at North Point.
Supported by the Urban Renewal Fund, the Hong Kong Arts Centre has launched the Via North Point Festival which is open to the public now. The waterfront promenade features a series of artworks themed on the neighbourhood’s former shoreline. They make excellent backdrops for photography while raising awareness of current sustainability issues at the same time.
Armed with your iphone for instagramming, and accompanied by your pet dog, start off from North Point Pier where you’ll find a relaxing pop-up beach, named Hangout Islands in North Point. Lie back on a canvas lounger as you take in the panoramic harbour vista and embrace the soft sea breeze.
With the approach of the Mid-autumn festival, the North Point waterfront promenade now features a timely collection of exquisite rabbit sculptural displays, which were previously displayed in Wan Chai. Along the waterfront, there are some more artworks such as The Symphone of North Point, and Sugar Factory, which are all part of the Via North Point Festival.
For those with a cultural bent, you simply can’t miss the Dog Art Gallery at Harbour North which has been extended to September 30 due to popular demand. You and your beloved pet will have a ball as you enjoy the 50 dog-themed pop art drawings by American artist Michel Keck.
Food at the waterfront is not to be missed. On The Hill Coffee Bar is the perfect spot for a refreshment break with its freshly brewed coffee. Plenty of food choices are also available at the nearby shopping mall, Harbour North. It’s the rendezvous for the in-crowd!
