Thrilled SAR and LegCo delegation kick off four-day visit to Greater Bay Area
Members of a SAR government and Legislative Council delegation put their thumbs up and wore a big smile as they gathered in the Government Officers for photos on Friday afternoon before starting their four-day visit to cities in the Greater Bay Area.
The delegation, led by chief executive John Lee Ka-chiu, comprises of five government secretaries and 83 legislators.
Lee believed the scale of this trip was the largest ever and hoped officials visiting the GBA alongside lawmakers can set a good example of how administration and legislation monitor and cooperate with one another under the “patriots administering Hong Kong” principle.
He also expected the hectic itinerary can better promote the development opportunities in the GBA.
Lee added this trip achieved three “firsts”; first trip by officials and lawmakers together, first trip since the electoral system was perfected, and first trip since the full border reopening between the SAR and mainland.
Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen, the president of LegCo, said he was glad he can visit four GBA cities under the lead of Lee. He noted that the delegation has over 100 members and added it was never seen before, as he pointed to the historical meaning of this visit.
The delegation will first arrive in Shenzhen. On the following three days, they will be split into two groups, each led by chief secretary Eric Chan Kwok-ki and Leung, and travel to Dongguan or Foshan. They will then visit Guangzhou together.
