Three students, 14 to 15, arrested for HK$3m drug bust in Kwun Tong
Three students aged 14 to 15 were arrested in Kwun Tong after they were caught signing a package delivery in which about 1.5 kg of heroin was hidden in boxing kick pads. Officers then raided the home of one of the teens and further seized about 3 kg of “ice” drug.
Customs said officers inspected an air consignment, declared as carrying cosmetics, from Thailand on January 22, and found about 1.5 kg of heroin concealed inside the false compartments of four kick pads, with the “Double UOGlobe Brand” displayed clearly.
Officers then repacked the drug into the kick pads and monitored the delivery. On Tuesday (Jan 31), officers ambushed and arrested a 14-year-old boy who signed the package delivery and a 14-year-old girl who accompanied the teen in Kwun Tong.
Customs also raided the boy's home in the district, where officers further seized about 3 kg of methamphetamine, some drug paraphernalia and arrested a 15-year-old boy – the teen's older brother.
The drugs were valued at about HK$3 million, Customs said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the three were junior secondary school students and the 14-year-old teen who signed the delivery used the unit for drug storage. They went along with the drugs trafficking crime for a reward of HK$15,000, Customs added.
Customs appealed to young people not to take any chance since drug trafficking is a serious criminal offense, and criminal conviction will result in grave repercussions for their future.
They also urged the public to stay alert and not to participate in drug trafficking activities for monetary return.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, the maximum penalty of drug trafficking upon conviction carries a HK$5 million fine and life imprisonment.
