Three-runway project reclamation more than 90pc done, says Frank Chan
Reclamation works at Hong Kong International Airport's three-runway project, are more than 90 percent completed, the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Frank Chan Fan, told the special meeting of the Legislative Council Finance Committee today.
The runway pavement and relevant facilities are progressing in full swing, he said.
Airport Authority of Hong Kong maintains its target to commission the third runway in next year and the three-runway system in 2024, Chan said.
The project involves reclaiming 650 hectares of land north of the existing airport island (equivalent to 34 Victoria Parks, or 100 artificial islands for the New Wing of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre), using non-dredge methods including deep cement mixing, the AAHK, says.
A new, 3 800-meter-long runway and its supporting taxiway systems are being built and the existing North Runway will be reconfigured.
The third runway passenger building and an apron is a part of the project.
