Three new fares for Cathay's economy class flights
The fares for Cathay Pacific's economy class flights will be divided into three new categories, namely Light, Essential and Flex starting next Tuesday.
The new fares will be available for flight tickets originating from Malaysia, South Korea or the Taiwan region starting next Tuesday. They will then be extended across the rest of the network over the next six months, and to Hong Kong during the first quarter of 2022.
The Light fare includes one piece of checked baggage that weighs 23kg or less.
The Essential fare includes two pieces of checked baggage, with each weighing 23kg or less. Free seat pre-selection and the option to upgrade using Asia Miles are available as well.
The Flex fare also includes two pieces of checked baggage, plus free seat pre-selection, free flight changes and free same-day earlier flight change. Other upgrades are also available.
Cathay Pacific said they are shifting the baggage policy from a weight-allowance to a piece-allowance system as well.
These changes will apply to all cabin classes and will be gradually rolled out worldwide as the new economy fares are introduced, Cathay noted.
Currently, Cathay only has one type of economy class fare. It covers the luggage and seat selection. Customers can buy pricier tickets if they want the option to change their bookings.
