Hong Kong reported 794 new Covid-19 cases and added 41 related deaths on Saturday, as the city saw its daily caseload continued to fall below 1,000 for the second day.
Among the new cases, 449 were confirmed through PCR tests and 345 were positive rapid antigen test results reported by citizens.
The Centre for Health Protection’s Chuang Shuk-kwan said 12 cases were imported from overseas. Nine patients arrived in Hong Kong on Friday -- four on flight KL819, three on flight CX865, one on flight 3S516 and one on TR980.
Chuang continued that the overall tally of the fifth wave of pandemic outbreak now stands at 1,184,447.

Covid-hit elderly homes and care centers for the disabled reported new infections, involving 23 residents and three workers.
Hospital Authority’s chief manager for integrated clinical services Larry Lee Lap-yip reported 41 related deaths, pushing the death tally to 8,897.
Thirty-four deaths, including 17 men and 17 women aged 44 to 103, were logged in public hospitals on Friday. Among them, 14 were residents of elderly homes, 13 had no vaccination record and only three were aged below 65.
The three were two men aged 55 and 57, and a 44-year-old woman. They were all diagnosed with chronic diseases.
The 57-year-old man had received two doses of
Covid vaccine and he had a stroke last year. He was admitted to the emergency room of Ruttonjee Hospital on February 22 and tested positive on Sunday (Apr 10).
The 55-year-old had lung cancer and had received his first jab. He was admitted to the emergency room of Princess Margaret Hospital on March 14 and tested positive for
Covid on April 2.
As for the woman, she suffered from a heart condition and a kidney disease. She was admitted to the emergency room of Yan Chai Hospital on March 24 and tested positive for
Covid the same day.
Lee also reported seven deaths between March 7 and Thursday late due to lagged results, involving two men and five women aged 81 to 91.
Public hospitals and treatment facilities are now housing 8,280
Covid-19 patients. Among them, five are in critical condition, three in serious condition and 52 are now staying in hospitals’ intensive care units. A total of 808 recovered patients have been discharged.
