Three arrested after police bust hidden triad armory in Kwun Tong
Three teenagers were arrested on Thursday and Friday for possessing offensive weapons after police busted an armory hidden in a residential flat in Kowloon Bay.
Police mounted an anti-triad operation in Ngau Tau Kok on Thursday and intercepted two suspicious men. Officers then found two military-style knives in a recycling bag and placed the duo under arrest.
Further investigation revealed that one of the men was wanted by police for the illegal detention and indecent assault of a 13-year-old girl.
As officers continued their operation, they targeted and raided a flat at Richland Gardens in Kowloon Bay that was suspectedly used by the triad society as a secret armory. Officers then seized two more military knives, eight machetes, two batons and two hammers hidden in a suitcase.
The man who claimed to be the tenant of the flat was also arrested by police.
Police added the trio aged between 18 and 23 were members of a triad society and were remanded in police custody. Two of them were jobless and the third was a logistics worker.
Officers added they have been charged with possessing offensive weapons and will appear in Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts next Monday (May 30).
The case is now handled by Sau Mau Ping anti-triad unit and police have not ruled out more arrests.
Police believe the weapons are meant to be used in gang fights and their operation successfully stops future illegal activities.
