Technology chief calls on Hongkongers to step up in astronaut tryout
Hong Kong’s technology chief on Monday called on eligible Hongkongers to step up in an astronaut tryout as China will, for the first time, recruit astronauts in the territory in the nation's fourth recruitment drive for up to 14 aspiring aerospace engineers.
Recruits will join the nation's space missions in the future with two payload specialists - engineers who conduct or oversee scientific experiments and tests - recruited in Hong Kong and Macau.
Speaking on a radio program this morning, Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, said the recruitment drive signifies the country’s support and care for the SAR, and highlights the utmost importance attached to the city’s technological sector by the Central Government.
He believed there is a high chance for Hongkongers to be recruited as long as there are enough candidates from the city.
