Technician hangs himself in Ocean Park’s pump house
A 39-year-old man was found to have hanged himself with an electric cable in a pump house in Ocean Park on Friday morning.
The man surnamed Chan was a technician responsible for water quality control. It was understood that he committed suicide because he was heavily stressed.
Chan was working an overnight shift and the tragedy was reported to police around 7.20 am this morning. Paramedics soon came and rushed Chan to Ruttonjee Hospital but he was eventually pronounced dead.
Police seized the electric cable Chan used to hang himself.
Family members and representatives from the park also rushed to the hospital after learning of the sad news.
A spokesperson for Ocean Park later said an employee fell unconscious in one of the park’s facilities this morning and was declared dead after he was sent to hospital.
The park extended condolences on the passing of the worker and management also visited the family in the hospital to provide support.
The spokesperson said the park will remain in close contact with the family and provide support for other employees as well.
The park will also render full assistance into police investigation.
