Teacher Arrested for Allegedly Leaking Confidential DSE Exam Document on Xiaohongshu
A 38-year-old teacher from a secondary school in Hong Kong has been arrested for allegedly uploading a confidential document related to the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) exams on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu.
The teacher, surnamed Wong, was arrested on Wednesday in Sham Shui Po and has been charged with breaching the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority Ordinance.
He has been remanded in custody.
The arrest came after a police report was filed by the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) earlier this year, which found that a user account named "DSE Miss Huang 5**" had uploaded the marking scheme for the Chinese writing paper in May and July.
Further investigation revealed that Wong was not a marker for the DSE exams and had not been hired by the HKEAA.
Police suspect that he used the confidential document to lure students to enroll in his private tutorial classes, where he hoped to make a profit.
During a police operation yesterday, multiple phones, tablets, and notebook computers were seized from Wong's home in Sham Shui Po. Police are now investigating the source of the document and say they may make more arrests in connection with the case.
Police also reminded the public that anyone hired or appointed by the HKEAA must keep all materials obtained for the execution of their duties confidential.
