Tam Yiu-chung expects CE Lee to announce test-free border crossing tomorrow
Hong Kong's outgoing deputy at the National People's Congress Standing Committee, Tam Yiu-chung, said he expected chief executive John Lee Ka-chiu to announce the removal of a PCR test mandate for those traveling between Hong Kong and the mainland tomorrow.
Speaking on a radio program Monday morning, Tam said the test mandate has been inconsistent with the mainland’s anti-epidemic measures, with mainland authorities closing many of its testing sites lately.
He also noted that Hong Kong has lifted the mandatory isolation order for those infected and no longer required people to report their infections, which is time for the test mandate to be canceled next.
He hoped the good news could be announced by Lee during his weekly press conference tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, commenting on pro-establishment party DAB’s call for another round of HK$5k consumption vouchers to boost local economy, Tam said the city’s finance chief Paul Chan Mo-po has to deploy the city’s resources with care.
He said if Chan decided not to hand out another round of the vouchers, the finance chief should explain to the public the rationale behind his decision.
