Suspended ceiling falls onto train platform in Diamond Hill Station
A suspended ceiling fell onto the ground at a platform in Diamond Hill MTR station around 5.30pm today.
The metal ceiling dropped onto the ground at No. 3 platform in the station as passengers are waiting for trains on Tuen Ma Line to travel to Tuen Mun. The glass shattered as the ceiling hit the ground.
No passenger was hurt in the incident and train service was not affected.
As a cautionary measure, the No.2 screen door for the sixth car of the train at the platform was suspended for a while.
Workers soon arrived at the platform and cordoned off the area. They also removed the fallen ceiling from the site.
MTR said workers have conducted thorough inspections and fixed the suspended ceiling. After safety confirmation the area was opened to the public again around 7.40pm.
MTR added it is highly concerned of the incident. It also said workers will continue to follow up the incident and investigate its cause.
Inspections will also be carried out tonight when the stations are closed in order to check all suspended ceilings of the same type.
The first phase of Tuen Ma Line commenced service on February 14, and the whole line, traveling 56km and passing through 27 stations, fully commenced service on June 27.
