Sun Hung Kai Properties proposal for buildings above West Kowloon Station approved
Sun Hung Kai Properties' proposal to build two commercial buildings on top of the West Kowloon Station was approved with conditions by the Town Planning Board on Friday.
The proposal was banned by the Board in January due to the heights originally proposed. Sun Hung Kai Properties originally planned to build a 24-story office and a 30-story mall, standing at 131 meters and 159 meters.
SHKP then amended the proposal and lowered the heights of the two towers by 9 meters and 11 meters to 122 meters and 148 meters respectively.
The Board today approved its application with conditions.
Sun Hung Kai Properties welcomed the decision of the board and said it will submit the building plans as soon as possible for the construction works to begin.
SHKP believed that the project can boost commerce, trades and tourism, and benefit the residents nearby alongside the West Kowloon Cultural District.
The two towers not only offer grade A offices and facilities for retails, but also public green spaces and roads. On the top floor of the highest building, there will be an outdoor viewing point that opens to the public, offering a spectacular scenery of the Victoria Harbour.
There will also be a 1.5km long West Kowloon Parkway, allowing citizen to walk to the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade more easily.
It also serve to connect the Yau Tsim Mong district to the West Kowloon Cultural District and the two new commercial buildings on top of the MTR Station.
