Student activist Isaac Cheng reported to have left HK for Taiwan
Pro-democracy activist Isaac Cheng Ka-long has left Hong Kong for Taiwan, sources said.
It is yet to be clear if he is temporarily or permanently leaving Hong Kong, but his departure sparked speculations that he is on the run.
However, Cheng, former vice chairman of the now-disbanded Demosisto, has yet to reply to The Standard’s enquiries.
It was earlier reported that Cheng was accompanying Nathan Law Kwun-chung, chairman of Demosisto before it disbanded before the implementation of the national security law last June, when he left Hong Kong on exile last year.
Cheng later admitted last August that he had temporarily left Hong Kong out of family and personal reasons, but denied claims that he was fleeing the SAR.
Two of his other party mates, former secretary general Joshua Wong Chi-fung and standing committee member Agnes Chow Ting are currently serving their prison sentence for illegal assembly charges over a 2019 demonstration outside the Police Headquarters.
Cheng is also currently on bail after the Customs arrested him last May for breaching the Trade Description Ordinance while selling masks for Demosisto, but he is allowed to enter or leave Hong Kong under the bail conditions.
