Stephen Chow Sau-yan takes office as Bishop of the Catholic Diocese
Stephen Chow Sau-yan took office as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong on Saturday.
The consecration ceremony was staged at Hong Kong Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday afternoon, following the appointment announced in mid-May.
Chow after the ceremony said he will be fully committed to his mission as a Bishop, hoping Hongkongers will believe the appointment is a blessing to the diocese and the city.
He also hoped Catholics in Hong Kong will pray for him for properly performing his duty.
Chow said he has no big management plan so far, but he believed communication is a necessary process.
He added the diocese must put more effort into youth education and it must not forget about the poor, the marginalized and the forgotten ones, as well as the ecosystem and the environment.
Chow, 62, was born in Hong Kong in 1959 and was ordained a priest in 1994. He also holds a Doctorate in Education from Harvard University.
Before taking office as a Bishop, Chow was the Provincial Superior of the Jesuit Chinese Province and the Supervisor of Wah Yan College (Hong Kong and Kowloon).
