Starry Lee to take up high-profile role in National People’s Congress: sources
Starry Lee Wai-king, head of Hong Kong’s largest pro-establishment party, is set to fill the shoes of Tam Yiu-chung as a Standing Committee member of the National People’s Congress, sources said.
Sources added Lee, the chairwoman of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB), and Ma Fung-kwok from the New Century Forum are on the draft name list of the presidium of the NPC.
It is understood that the draft name list was approved during a pre-conference session staged on Saturday morning, appointing Ma as the head of the NPC presidium and Stanley Ng Chau-pei from the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions as the deputy.
It is also learned that the name list comprises several previous Chinese liaison office chiefs like Luo Huining and Peng Qinghua, as well as its current chief Zheng Yanxiong.
This morning (Sat), a state spokesperson confirmed that the annual plenary meetings of the National People’s Congress will begin on Sunday and last for 8.5 days.
