'Stabbing' report led to busting of illegal gambling den in Mong Kok
Police busted an illegal gambling den after receiving reports from two people, claiming they were falsely imprisoned and stabbed at a Mong Kok flat.
A man and a woman reported to the police at around Tuesday midnight, saying they were held at a flat on 109-113 Portland Street.
After officers arrived, they found the flat was locked so the firefighters broke into it. They failed to find the two people who called the police, but saw many others gathering there and suspected they were playing Baccarat there.
Officers arrested a 47-year-old local man surnamed Wong for operating a gambling establishment. Another 22 men and 23 women aged 17 to 67 were arrested on suspicion of gambling in a gambling establishment.
All of the arrested were also suspected of violating the social gathering cap stated in the the Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition of Gathering) Regulations, and were issued with fixed penalty notices. They were all being detained for investigation.
During the operation, officers seized three baccarat tables and approximately HK$120,000 in cash suspected to be bets.
