Sports Expo mulls introduction of fencing experience
A fencing experience zone could be added to Hong Kong's first sports-themed interactive experience center Sports Expo.
Managing director of the Urban Renewal Authority Wai Chi-sing said in his blog today that the Sports Expo in The Forest -- a shopping mall in Mong Kok -- has attracted more than 30,000 visitors since its launch at the end of 2019.
As Cheung Ka-long has won an Olympic gold medal in fencing this summer, the expo is studying the possibility of adding a "virtual fencing stadium" so that the public can experience how to wield a sword.
The team is discussing with multimedia technology consultants in Hong Kong on the upgrade by improving the projection system and devices detecting body movements, which is expected to allow users to experience sword-swinging in the future.
A special event will be held the coming, where representatives of the Hong Kong team including badminton mixed doubles team representatives Tang Chun-man and Tse Ying-suet, and rowing representative Winne Hung Wing-yan will share their experiences.
A series of activities such as karate demonstrations, fencing experience, and interactive games are also to be held for the public to experience the sports.
A larger exhibition of Hong Kong athletes winning in the Tokyo Olympics will be held next month at the community space in the YM2 shopping mall in Yue Man Square, Kwun Tong.
Sculptures of winning athletes will be exhibited to show support to them, as well as promote sports in Hong Kong.
