Some 18,200 re-submissions of consumption voucher applications received
About 18,200 re-submissions for the government's electronic consumption voucher scheme have been filed, and authorities completed processing about 13,000 of them.
The latest update was provided by Christopher Hui Ching-yu, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, in reply to a lawmaker's question.
He said he felt sorry for making the elderly travel a long way to re-submit their forms, as he admitted there is inadequacy in implementing the scheme.
Crowds appeared at the Secretariat of the Consumer Voucher Scheme at Pioneer Centre in Mongkok earlier this month to re-register for the consumption vouchers scheme after people made errors during their paper form registration.
The government has made remedial measures including extending the re-registration deadline to 6pm today, Hui said.
As for whether the scheme will be launched again, Hui said it will depend on Hong Kong's economy and the government's financial situation, Hui added.
He also mentioned that the administrative expenditure this time is expected to be less than the expected HK$600 million.
