Art fans can have a preview of the Hong Kong Palace Museum to open next July at an exhibition.
The museum will launch the “HKPM Connects” booth at Fine Art Asia 2021, from October 8 to 11 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The booth will offer a preview of the museum’s building, programs, and treasures ahead of its grand opening in July next year.

The public can visit the booth for daily tours, performances, and demonstrations to learn more about the architecture, exhibits, and future programs of the museum.

“In terms of vision and positioning, the Hong Kong Palace Museum is all about the idea of a ‘connected museum’,” said the museum’s director Louis Ng Chi-wa, “[The idea] captures the distinct identity and role of the [museum] in advocating for a new paradigm for the interpretation of Chinese art and culture.”

The Hong Kong Palace Museum is located at the western tip of the West Kowloon Cultural District. It aspires to become one of the world’s leading cultural institutions committed to the study and appreciation of Chinese art and culture.

At the fair in Wan Chai, the museum will offer a variety of programs including four public talks as well as a conversation event with the museum’s director Louis Ng Chi-wa and the museum’s board member Joseph Ting Sun-pao. They will be discussing the development of local museums over the past five decades and examine how museums have become an important part of the public’s daily life.

The rest of the public talks cover a broad range of topics, including how the Palace Museum collection is reinterpreted by contemporary artists, designers, and other art professionals.

At the booth, a Chinese painting conservator of the museum Lyu Zhichao will conduct demonstrations to introduce unique tools and materials, such as brushes made of palm fiber and goat hair.

He will also share techniques of conserving Chinese paintings and calligraphy works.

There will also be two performances organized by the museum at the Fine Art Asia fair.

Fine Art Asia 2021 will be open to the public from next Friday to October 11. Admission time for October 8 to 10 will be from 11am to 7pm. The fair will close earlier at 6pm on the last day on the 11th.

The ticket for adults costs HK$120, for full-time students and senior citizens it would be HK$50. Children under twelve are free to enter accompanied by an adult.
