Smart ID renewal will no longer be handled without appointments: ImmD
The Immigration Department (ImmD) announced that Smart Identity Card Replacement Centres and Registration of Persons Offices will not handle identity card services without appointments starting Thursday.
The Department spokesperson said that the decision is to ensure a smooth and orderly manner of smart ID renewal services.
ImmD also stressed that there is no same-day queue tickets arrangement for smart ID renewal and appealed to residents to make appointments before applying for identity cards.
Citizens can make an appointment via the ImmD mobile app, the Internet, or the 24-hour telephone booking hotlines.
The department announced last week to extend the operation of smart ID card replacement centers for three more weeks to March 3.
The ROP Offices will offer assistance based on individual circumstances for applicants without an appointment but with an urgent need to replace their identity cards as it has been lost, destroyed, damaged, or defaced.
The spokesperson said that Hong Kong residents who cannot have their identity cards replaced due to their absence from Hong Kong can apply for a replacement within 30 days of their return and need not rush back.
Residents staying in Hong Kong for less than 30 days upon their return will not infringe the relevant laws because of not applying for replacement of their identity cards during that period of stay.
